Hello! Welcome to The Commercially Savvy Lawyer Newsletter! I am so glad you are here and I am really looking forward to sharing my practical transactional experience with you.

My name is Sonya Shaykhoun, Esq. I am a British-educated, New York-qualified attorney who has lived and worked in the Middle East for a total of 16 years. Although I grew up in Manhattan, I did my first degree, an MA Honours Degree in English Language and Literature, at the University of St. Andrews (1995). From there, I went down to London to pursue a BA in Arabic and Law at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London (2000), which included spending one year learning Arabic at Alexandria University. I completed the Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School in Red Lion Square in London (2002) and my first LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law at SOAS (2003). I completed my second LL.M. in Corruption, Law, and Governance from the University of Sussex and the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center (ROLACC) in Doha, Qatar (2018). I speak Arabic and French.

In this Newsletter, I share practical contracting and transactional knowledge that I have amassed over my 18-year long legal career in Bahrain, Qatar, and NYC. I have substantial cross-border transactional and corporate experience that I gained working as a senior lawyer with some iconic global companies like OSN, Al Jazeera Media Network, and Qatar Airways. Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter. Never miss an update.

I will publish this Newsletter at least once a week.
